Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) is a global information
standard designed to ensure the interoperability of systems used to produce,
store, display, process, send, retrieve, query and print medical images.
Physicians have better access to images and reports when DICOM standards are in
place. DICOM was created by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association
(NEMA) to aid the distribution and viewing of medical images, such as CT scans,
MRIs, and ultrasound. DICOM is the most common standard for receiving scans
from a hospital.
SAVIM is fully compatible with DICOM standard and also allows the integration
to the standard of non-DICOM compatible modalities with analogue video output
like endoscopy, microscopy, fluoroscopy, etc.
